Gary was born on Valentines day to Carlton and Jeanette (nee Berlin) Ernst. Gary's father worked for the railroad giving them the

opportunity to live in many beautiful communities across the nation. He attended Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School. He

joined the Navy in 1967, proudly serving his country in the Vietnam Conflict. He then attended Prairie State College where he earned a

degree. Afterwards he became a successful real estate agent. Following his real estate career he followed in his fathers footsteps

and began working for the railroad. He was a Train Master at Corwith railroad yard in Chicago, IL serving Santa Fe and BNSF railways,

retiring in 2006. He was passionate about animals, taking in strays and loving them as family members. His home was always open to

those in need. He also loved "treasure hunting", that is, antiquing. He turned this into a full time job in 2007 when his wife of 37 years and he decided to become proprietors of Milltown Market and Storage located in Wilmington, IL. Gary's warm and open heart will be missed by all.
