George Bryan Adams, Jr.
February 13, 1937 - February 19, 2022

Charlotte, North Carolina - George Bryan ("GB") Adams, Jr., age 85, died on February 19, 2022. A proud fifth generation Charlottean, he was born on February 13, 1937 to George B. Adams, Sr. and Eleanor Kuhn Adams.

GB attended A.G. Junior High, Central High School (Class of '55), and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill where he was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. GB was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1964.

GB cherished his idyllic "old neighborhood" on Belvedere Avenue and the dear friends he made and got into mischief within his youth and who he remained close to for the rest of his life. He had many fond memories of fun times with his friends at Charlotte Country Club, where his family were members and his grandparents, Edward and Mabel Kuhn, were General Managers of the club and owned the restaurant. GB loved to talk about the glory days of his swimming relay team that also included Perrin Henderson, Johnny Mills, and Jack Wills.

GB had been a member of Christ Episcopal Church since 1960. He met the love of his life, Mary Carolyn Hilker, at A.G. and they married on his birthday, February 13, 1960. What a perfect gift! They were inseparable and blessed with 58 wonderful years of marriage. In 1965, they welcomed their son and only child, Bryan.
GB had a long and rewarding career in the commercial printing industry, founding Printcrafters of the Carolinas, Inc. in 1973. He was a born salesman and loved calling on customers old and new.

GB enjoyed spending time with Carolyn and his family at their vacation home at North Litchfield Beach. He was an avid gardener and loved sharing the painfully hot peppers he grew with those who were brave enough to accept them. He always had a project in his workshop, whether it be woodworking, building pinewood derby cars and birdhouses with his grandsons George and Charles, or just trying to replicate a unique hand-carved Christmas ornament he had seen so he could give them to his family and friends. He also really loved a nap.

GB was a humble person of great integrity who had the courage to be himself. He possessed an incredible zest for life and an infectious enthusiasm for enjoying each day to the fullest. He was always available for his friends in times of need. He was also always ready with a detailed list of instructions double underlined in red ink for Bryan or anyone else he needed to do something!

He always had a positive outlook, even in times of adversity. His faith in Jesus Christ was the source of his hope. GB knew his Lord personally and was willing to share that hope with others in words and deeds. GB expressed to Bryan during the last few weeks that if it were "his time," he was ready, he had lived a good life and was ready to be with Carolyn.

GB was predeceased by his parents, George and Eleanor Adams. He is survived by his son, Bryan; daughter-in-law, Meg; and grandsons, George and Charles.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to GB's personal physician, Mike Johnson, M.D., and the medical teams at Atrium Health for their exceptional care for him during the last several weeks.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road in Charlotte. The family will receive friends in the Blue Room following the services. In lieu of flowers, GB requested donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
