Lorraine Ellen Veal, 86, of Belle Fourche, died February 8, 2017 at the David Dorsett Health Care in Spearfish.

She was born on September 30, 1930 in Lemmon, South Dakota to William "Tom" and Helen (Hoefling) Anderson. She spent many wonderful years growing up in Lemmon with her siblings and cousins. Lorraine married her high school sweetheart, F.D. Veal on June 16, 1948 at the Presbyterian parsonage in Lemmon. The couple farmed and ranched for numerous years with his parents, Herb and Doris Veal, whom Lorraine loved very much. They retired to Belle Fourche in 2000.

Lorraine thrived on taking care of her family, she loved cooking, sewing, gardening, fancy-work, reading and had a deep fondness for birds. She enjoyed watching them frolic in their bird feeder and looking up species in her bird book. Lorraine was famous for her chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Fairview Chapter #166 Eastern Star of Bison, the Meadow/Bison Presbyterian Churches, the Belle Fourche Methodist Church and the Meadow/Chance area Domesti Kates Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Helen Anderson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herb and Doris Veal; sister-in-law, Lucile Veal (Harold) Gibbons; brother, Karl "Gene" Anderson; sister, Sandra (Milbert) Kramer and daughter, Nancy Lee Veal.

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of 68 years; five children; twelve grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and numerous great grandchildren who brought her enormous joy.

A Ceremonial Tribute will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche with the Reverend Bob Duemig officiating. Inurnment will take place 11:00 AM, Friday, May 5th in the Chance Cemetery near Meadow, South Dakota.

The family suggests memorials to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
