On March 7, 2023 Pamela Hays Johnson passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice after a long battle with cancer.

Pam will be missed by many and will be remembered as always being nice to everyone. She was a loving mother, sister and wife. Pam was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 14, 1949 to Freeman Hays M.D. and Patricia Williams Hays. Pam's family moved to Virginia where she graduated in 1967 from George Washington High school in Danville, Virginia and the Medical College of Virginia in 1971 as a Registered Nurse. Pam practiced as a Registered Nurse for over 41 years. Pam loved horses and spent a lot of her time at the Stars and Stripes Equestrian Center just having fun with the horses. She also enjoyed Cruising and sitting on the balcony of the ship looking at the ocean and reading. Pam is survived by her husband Shannon a retired Colonel from the United States Army and they were married for over 25 years. Pam is also survived by her son Thomas Sweeney and his wife Christine of Waterford, Virginia and three grandchildren Annabelle, Chloe and Riker and a daughter Sharon Sweeney of Colonial Heights, Virginia. A brother Paul Hays and Cindy of Washington D.C. Two sisters Barbara Thomas and husband Cam of Underwood, Washington and Ruth Hays Emory of Richmond, Virginia. A sister-in-law Sharon Culler of Elizabethton, Tennessee. Pam was preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Augusta "Beth" Sweeney and brother Michael Lewis "Mike" Hays. Her wishes were to have no services and her remains have been entrusted to the Neptune Society for cremation.
