For many years, she worked in various roles at Richmond Community College. While working, Mayne Cole attended Pembroke State University in the evenings and proudly earned a degree in sociology. After retirement from RCC, she moved to Clemson, SC to be near family.

Mayne Cole was very interested in genealogy, continuing a tradition begun by her aunt. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society. Her homemade spaghetti sauce and butterscotch brownies were family favorites. She was an avid walker, and enjoyed walking with friends and participating in exercise classes at Silver Sneakers. She was also devoted to her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rockingham, attended St. John's United Methodist Church of Anderson SC, and participated in Susanna circle at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca SC. She enjoyed helping others and led a life of service.
