Thelma Pearl (Rich) Wardell
December 23, 1938 ~ August 26, 2022 (age 83)

On August 26, 2022, T. Pearl (Rich) Wardell, born on December 23, 1938 to Arbun Marlow and Thelma Russell Rich, said farewell to her family and joined her sweetheart on their grandest adventure yet.

Pearl loved to laugh and joke, especially with her grandkids. When they came to her house on Halloween, they were sure to find both a treat and a trick-a sucker with a worm in it, a baby pig hiding in Grandpa's overalls, Grandma wearing a scary mask and jumping out at them from behind the door or on the roof... We never knew what to expect, but she has left us with too many delightful memories to count.

She also left us with a sure knowledge that we could do difficult things. She was not afraid of hard work, and she did what needed to be done in creative and amazing ways. Away from home, she worked as a waitress, a hair stylist, a hotshot driver, and a CNA. At home, she worked as a carpenter, a rancher, a plumber, an auto mechanic, and more. She taught, by her example, that it is just as beautiful to be strong and capable as it is to be loving and generous.

One of the hardest things she ever did was caring for her husband, Thom, through the ravages of Parkinson's disease. It took a heavy toll on both of them, but it also helped strengthen the bond they started building on August 18th, 1958, when they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary, she made the decision to decline medical intervention and bravely face a difficult death, because what she wanted more than anything else was to be with her Thom.

When she and Thom were reunited, Pearl was also welcomed home by her parents, her dear son Thomas Chris Wardell, her sister Olive (Jim) Parry, and her sister-in-law, Carol Lee Rich. Her large family that is left behind, including her children; Moana (Kevin) Draper, Douglas (Sheryl) Wardell, Penelope (Alan) Batty, and daughter-in-law, Kristie Wardell; her twenty-three grandchildren and fifty-five great-grandchildren; and her siblings; A. Burnell (Sherril) Rich, Deareld (Teresa) Rich, Bernice (Burt) Pilling, Clarence Rich, Russell (Bobbi) Rich, Rex (Timalee) Rich, and Bonnie (Kelly) Crozier; and her many adoring nieces and nephews will miss her very much, but we are happy that she is free from the loneliness and difficulties accumulated during a life well-lived and able to experience the joy, adventure, and learning that Heaven has waiting for her.

Funeral services for Pearl will be held Tuesday August 30, 2022 at 11:00am at the Glines 8th Ward Chapel (1270 West 1500 South). Visitation for family and friends will be Monday from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West), and Tuesday from 9:30pm ~ 10:45am at the church. Interment will be in Vernal Memorial Park next to her beloved husband Thom. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
