Mildred L. Kerwood – 86, of Fairbury, NE passed away, March 4, 2023 in Fairbury. She was born June 14, 1936 to Paul & Grace (Junker) Zweifel in Hanover, KS.
Services will be Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8 at the funeral home. Memorials will go to the Presbyterian Church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Obituary
Mildred L. (Zweifel) Kerwood, daughter of Paul and Grace (Junker) Zweifel, was born June 14, 1936, at Hanover, Kansas. She passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 4, 2023, at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury, Nebraska, at the age of 86 years.
In March of 1948 she moved with her family to a farm northwest of Fairbury, Nebraska. Mildred was baptized December 17, 1950 at the Fairbury Presbyterian Church by Pastor Raymond Heglin. She attended rural schools Willowdale and Emmons in Washington County Kansas and attended rural District 61 in Fairbury. She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1954.

Mildred met the love of her life, Marvin Kerwood, and they were united in marriage March 9, 1957, at the Fairbury Presbyterian Church with Pastor Robert Jones officiating. They were blessed with four children: Debra, Dianne, Doyle, and Dawn. Marvin and Mildred lived on a farm north of Alexandria from 1957 until October, 2005 when they moved to Fairbury. Mildred joined the Alexandria Presbyterian Church April 3, 1958. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served as an Elder and Deacon and was active in Presbyterian Women. On October 13, 2013, she transferred her membership to the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury.

Mildred was a 4-H leader in Thayer County, a member of the Alexandria Community Club and American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at the Meridian Public School and Kids Praise in Hebron, Nebraska. She loved her family and family celebrations. She made the best chocolate roll,
cinnamon bread, and pies, and enjoyed sharing them with her family and friends. Attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities were very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin Kerwood on November 4, 2012, brother Delbert Zweifel, brothers-in-law: Jim Simpson and Raymond Kerwood, and brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Jeanne Kerwood.
Mildred is survived by son Doyle and wife Joann of Fairbury, Nebraska; daughters, Debra Holes and husband Mike of Fairbury, Nebraska, Dianne Simpson and husband Don of Lenexa, Kansas, and Dawn Buckles and husband Dennis of Deshler, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jessica
and James Polmanteer, Amanda and Brian Snook, Justin and Lindsey Holes, Dustin and Robin Simpson, Danielle and Josh Keller, John and Elizabeth Kerwood, Danica, Danessa, and Drew Buckles; great grandchildren, Daxton, Jace, and Wesley Snook, James Polmanteer V, CJ
Simpson and Ryan Keller; sisters, Marge Simpson and Janice and husband Mike Slater; sistersin-law, Marilyn Zweifel and Belva Kerwood and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 10, 2023 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury with Dave Conde and Lana Likens officiating. Interment will be at the Alexandria Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, March 9,
2023. Memorials will go to the Fairbury Presbyterian Church. Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
