Mrs. Eleanor Lassiter Dead

Mrs. Eleanor Lassiter was born September 16, 1841 and died May 6, 1923, making her stay on earth eight one years, eight months, and nineteen days. She was the widow of the late Henry S. Lassiter, who had preceded her to the grave several years ago. Before her marriage, she was Miss Eleanor Dixon, daughter of Abraham Dixon, of upper Johnston. She had been in fairly good health, for one so old, until about two weeks of her death. She had gone to visit her oldest son, Mr. P. W. Lassiter. It was at his home she was taken sick, and grew steadily weaker until the end came. All was done that friends, faithful sons and daughters could do, but the Master who gave her life, knew best when to take it back. She never united with any church, but she was a devout believer in the Primitive Baptist faith, and spent many of her last days reading the word of God. She lived an upright honorable life, and was loved and respected by all who knew her. In sickness, death, and health, she always bent a helping hand, encouraging words, bright smiles, giving a handful of flowers, or doing any thing she could to brighten the lives of others. It's sad to think, that we must mill all these things from her, but we feel that our loss will be her eternal gain.

Her body was laid to rest beside her husband, in the family burial ground at her old home, where large numbers of relatives, and friends had gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. In life she was always fond of flowers, and her last resting place was banked with many and beautiful floral offerings.

The pall-bearers were: Messrs. James A. Creech, W. C. Grant, W. E. Lassiter, Joda Morgan, J. R. Williams, and W. A. Massengill.

She leaves behind to mourn her loss four sons, P. W. Lassiter, Lonnie Lassiter, D. C. Lassiter, and C. R. Lassiter, five daughters, Mrs. T. D. Creech, Smithfield, Mrs. Preston Strickland, of near Sanford, Mrs. Calvin Barbour, of Four Oaks, Mrs. J. D. Lassiter, of Wilson's Mills, and Mrs. Charles Woodall, of Four Oaks. Two sons and two daughters have gone before her. Besides these she leaves a hots of sorrowing grandchildren, friends and other relatives.
