The eleventh child of Rev. John Marion Bolton (1825-1876) and Eliza Dover (1829-1900), Lula Bolton married John David Dickinson (1866-1912) on February 21, 1897 at the home of her brother, Thomas Bolton, in Zetella, Spalding County, Georgia. The Dickinsons relocated to Douglas County, Georgia, (near John's parents and brothers) after their marriage. A widow at 42, she returned to Spalding County with their children: Leila, Willie Kate, Effie Faye, Mary Ruth and John Kermit.
