Born November 25, 1935 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late James Sherman, Sr. and Rhoda Burdian (Warren) Althouse. He lived his early life in the Chambersburg area.
Mr. Althouse attended the Chambersburg Schools and then received his G.E.D.
He served in the United States Army for six years during the Vietnam Conflict.
He and his late wife, Mrs. Delma M. (Staley) Althouse were married February 20, 1956. They moved to the present residence following their marriage. Mrs. Althouse died August 26, 1995.
Mr. Althouse was employed by South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain, PA in the maintenance department for 31 years. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191, Waynesboro and the Bert Aspen American Legion Post 46, Chambersburg.
Mr. Althouse enjoyed gardening, music, playing his radio, working puzzles, reading history books and his Bible studies.
He is survived by one sister, Roberta Jean Davis, Lancaster, PA, number of nieces and nephews and his special caregiver, Delores M. Rock, South Mountain.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 31, 2005 in the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Pastor Lee Eric Daywalt officiating. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.
