John Amato, 79, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

John was born May 17, 1934 to Luna (Carosello) and John L. Amato, Sr. in Canton. He was a 1952 graduate of Middle Branch High School, attended Capital University and graduated from The Ohio State University School of Pharmacy in 1957. John began his career at Gray Drug in Canton and then became manager of a Gray Drug in Middletown, Ohio. He then returned to Canton to work at Dartmouth Pharmacy, eventually buying into the store and then owning it with his brother, David. Together they opened the Village Green Pharmacies in Bolivar and the City of Green. He did his best to retire in 2000 and actually retired in 2009. John was an avid reader. He liked landscaping, playing bridge, fishing and boating. He was a history buff and even a beekeeper. He was a former member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Canton and a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green and a member of the Canton Elks Club.

For all his many interests, John loved his friends and family most of all and leaves to mourn his passing, beloved wife of 57 years, Wanda (nee Anthony)
