John D. Herriott, Old Resident of County, Passes Away — Funeral From Presbyterian Church

Mahomet, Ill., Feb. 2. — The death of John D. Herriott, at the home of his son, W. T. Herriott, Wednesday morning, removes one of the oldest and best known residents of this place. He was born in Scott county, Kentucky, April 20, 1826, and came to Champaign county, Illinois, November 17, 1852. He returned to Kentucky December 24, 1855, and went from there to Missouri in 1859. He came back to Champaign county in June, 1862, remaining until 1865, when he went to Missouri, coming back again to Champaign county in March, 1884, and residing here ever since.

Mr. Herriott married Martha E. Christian in Marion county, Missouri, January 29, 1861. His wife died in Champaign county October, 1890. Of his six children, two daughters Dora L. Adams and Bessie K. Rayburn reside in Cheney, Kan.; four sons, J. M., D. S., W. H. and W. T. Herriott reside in Champaign county.

The funeral took place from the Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock this morning, Rev. J. G. Venable conducting the services. Interment was at Fisher cemetery.
