John Dawson, Physician

Born at Ulverston, Lancashire, England.

Son of Joseph Dawson (1786-1868) and Jane Glover (1790-1868).

He was a medical missionary in British Burma, India before he came to the US with his second wife and children.

Married 1) Mary McBain (1824-1865) at Moulmein, Mon State, Myanmar on Feb 8, 1842.
Mary was the daughter of Peter McBain and Mary James

The couple had six children, most or all born in India:

1. Jenny Mary Dawson McPhail (1842-1883)

2. John Dawson II (1847-1877)

3. William Edwin Dawson (1851-1937)

4. Emma Sarah Dawson Ash (1855-1926)

5. Margaret Elizabeth Dawson Cooper (1857-1936)

6. Helen "Nellie" Eugene Dawson Sparks (1859-1926)

It appears that John spent many years working in India and Myanmar. He died at Yangon, Yangon, Myanmar.

As an aside, after the death of her husband, John Dawson, Mary Whyte remarried a gentleman, David Kern, (1849- 1925).
