Alexander "Alex" Phillip Balestrieri (Age 25) of Elkhorn, WI, died on February 23, 2023, in Afton, Wyoming in a snowmobiling accident. He was born on April 10, 1997, to Kenneth R. and Cynthia K. (Schmidt) Balestrieri. A lifelong resident of Elkhorn, Alex graduated from Elkhorn Area High School in 2015 and attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

A third-generation member of Balestrieri Environmental & Development Inc., at the age of 6, Alex began working alongside his father. His hard work and determination earned him the role of Project Manager/Estimator. Alex had involvement in all aspects of the company, which gave him the knowledge and expertise to successfully manage large scale and complex projects.

Alex developed an appreciation for the importance of small tasks and details, but also kept his eyes on the horizon. These were hallmarks in his personal life as well. They also set the standard for his true passions in the outdoors. Those passions paved the way and made him proficient as an avid water-skier, golfer, hunter, fisherman, snowmobiler, mountain biker, and pilot. Alex also was a second degree black belt in martial arts among other achievements.

Alex's father, Ken, along with his extended family and friends, instilled the love for hunting. The knowledge gained led to Alex sharing and mentoring others to share his passions for the sport. Alex created a community and made special bonds with his sister, cousins, friends, and colleagues. One of Alex's best memories was the latest elk hunt with his soulmate, Anne, sister, Jessica, and father, Ken, and other family members in New Mexico.

In the summers, he fully enjoyed his days at the lake where he would jet ski and surf with family and friends. Alex enjoyed making dinners for the family at the lake and never missed a single opportunity. Summer time also meant mountain biking and motocross, both extreme sports, Alex thrived at. Last year Alex earned this Private Pilot's License in order to fly his family to the Palmyra Father's Day Fly in; a yearly tradition.

In the winters, Alex's journey began by riding double with his mother and father on the trails in Northern Wisconsin. This led him to embrace riding out west in the mountains. He was part of a brotherhood in which they all shared the same passions, love, and admiration for the sport. They loved to explore the breathtaking terrain and find that perfect run. Alex never failed to start a fire and cook some sausages to then share the camaraderies with his fellow brothers.

Alex was driven, set goals, and capitalized on each moment to its fullest. Once he set his mind to something, he would find a way to accomplish it. This was most apparent when he passed all flying tests to gain his pilot license, something he was very proud of. In 2018, Alex tried skydiving. No matter the difficulties and danger, you could not get him to stop. He earned his way into being able to dive solo.

He will be forever remembered as a generous and fierce son, brother, and friend. The trips with his parents and sister growing up were eye opening and sparked endless curiosities. Alex was keenly interested and very observant of the world around him. His zest for life was infectious, and led to new friendships everywhere he went.

Alex was a family man through and through. Left to mourn his passing are his beloved parents Kenneth R. & Cynthia K. (Schmidt) Balestrieri and his younger sister, Jessica K. Balestrieri all of Elkhorn, WI; soulmate Anne L. Gahart, their dog, Ellie Mae and their cat, Owen; Grandparents Anthony F. & Mary E. Balestrieri; Grandmother Mary Lou (von Falkenstein) Schmidt; uncles and aunts Carl G. Balestrieri (Jacqueline), Michael V. Balestrieri, (Linda Tonge), Christine C. Ganhs (Jeff), Rebecca L. Devries (Tim); great uncles Barry von Falkenstein and Jerry Lee von Falkenstein; and great aunt Pauline Higgins (William). Preceding Alex in death was his beloved Grandfather William F. Schmidt and great aunt Melissa (Schmidt) Littlewood.
