Mrs. Austin was born December 24, 1930, in Fayetteville, NC, a daughter of Archie Cameron McInnis and Naomi Jackson McInnis. In the 1940's, her family moved to the Berkeley County area which is where she met her late husband, Andrew Jervey Austin. They married and began raising a family together. As a devout Christian, one of her primary goals was to be sure her children and grandchildren grew up in the church. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Sunbeams. Mrs. Austin also served as the music director at the church for 18 years but had to resign in order to care for her husband who was in declining health. In latter years, she attended the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner for several years where she also enjoyed participating in her Sunday school class, prior to her returning to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where her love of music and playing the piano had always shown through.

Mrs. Austin played a major role in raising her grandchildren and also the children and grandchildren of others throughout the area. She was lovingly referred to as "Meme" by many Berkeley County families. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by a sister, Jean McInnis Pelt, and two brothers, John and Neil McInnis. She was the widow of Andrew Jervey Austin.

Surviving are her daughters, Gail A. Hill and her husband, C.H., of Sandridge, and Dianne Sessions and her husband, Forrest, of Moncks Corner; a son, Andrew Gene Austin and his wife, Pat, of Pinopolis; a sister, Linda Wood and her husband, Bobby, of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Don McInnis and his wife, Becky, of Shallotte, NC, and Bill McInnis of Raleigh, NC; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Brock Austin of Hanahan, and Mary Austin Wylie of Greenville, SC; a brother-in-law, Rev. Richard Gibson of Anderson, SC; seven grandchildren, Todd Hill (Chad), Amy (Billy) Stewart, Jeremy (Jansie) Austin, Jennifer (Alex) Myers, Cam (Mallory) Sessions, Caroline (Drayton) Murphy, and Natalie (Parker) Rikard; twelve great grandchildren, A.J., Allie, AnnaLee, Bryce, Emilie, Chayson, Nora Frances, Jayna, Eliza Kate, Fletcher, Shepherd, Wade, and one on the way!; and five great-great grandchildren, Travis, Maisyn, Jayce, Brantley, and Aubrey.
