John Thomas "J T" Bottom Sr was born on April 17, 1886 in Giles County, Tennessee, the son of Stephen Simeon "Steve" Bottom (1849–1939) and Amanda Lucretia "Emma" (Brown) Bottom (1860–1899).
He was married to Dollie Magildia Moore (1888–1963), and she was the daughter of Russell Thomas Moore (1856–1915) and Mary Jane (Hood) Moore (1856–1920).
A farmer who was living at 1594 9th Avenue North in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, John was 80 years old and a widower when he died of congestive heart failure and pneumonia on May 17, 1966 at Nashville Metropolitan Convalescent Hospital, where he had been for four weeks.
Survivors included daughters Mrs Emma Burnette, Mrs Agnes Rolin, Mrs Jewell Boren and Mrs Martha Chester in Nashville and Mrs Mary Joyce of Louisville, Kentucky, sons S R H Bottom and John T Bottom at Nashville, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on May 19th at Woodlawn's Chapel of Roses, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
