Ross W. Whipple, age 85, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008, in Logan, Utah. He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Salt Lake City, UT. He attended Granite High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from the U. of U. where he was affiliated with the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. As a respected Geophysicist, he did consulting work for various mining and engineering companies including U.S. Steel, Kennecott, and Texaco. He was also an accomplished author and cartoonist. He was married for 25 years to Alice (Candy) Bernard; they later divorced. Survived by daughter: Rosalyn Hampton (Guy) of Logan, grandchildren: Amanda Hampton of SLC, Christopher Hampton of Logan, Tommy and Ryan Kolencik of Dallas GA, sisters: Gay Saunders of SLC, Helen Ingals (Ken) of Auburn, WA and son-in-law: R.J. Kolencik of Dallas, GA. Preceded in death by parents Anor and Aurilla Watkins Whipple, and daughter Melissa Kolencik. A private family service will be held on Tues., February 5th.
