John Richard Gabbott, 69
DIED: August 16, 2014
PLACE: his sister, Cheryl's Bountiful, Utah home
CAUSE: Esophageal cancer

BORN: October 21, 1949
PLACE: Bountiful

PARENTS: John Donald and Mabel (Jones) Gabbott (both deceased)

SIBLINGS (4): Cheryl Lea Gabbott, of Bountiful; Steven Bernard Gabbott, of Gordonsville, Virginia; Sue Ellen (David Judson) Dewey, of Saratoga Springs, Utah; and William Geoffrey "Geoff" (Margo) Gabbott, of Bountiful

GRADUATED from Bountiful High School, Class of 1967.

After his father died in 1976, John took over his wholesale picture frame and supply business. He was charming, handsome and a born salesman and traveled successfully throughout the Intermountain West.

MARRIED: Anna Rae (Benham) Muir
DATE: June 13, 1981
PLACE:

John loved motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons. He and Anna Rae enjoyed many trips on his top-of-the-line Harley. They made many special memories riding to the motorcycle rally at Sturgis, North Dakota.

STEPDAUGHTERS (2): Haleina Mary (Muir) Neal, of Tooele, Utah and Zabrina (Muir) Barton, of Athens, Alabama

In 1992, while riding his bicycle to the store, John was hit by a drunk driver making an illegal left turn. John almost lost everything in that one moment. He was in a coma for three months and spent many months in rehab. Anna Rae did a wonderful job getting John to the point where he could take care of himself, physically, but he had a traumatic brain damage and was unable to work. He had acute aphasia and found it very difficult to communicate.

After he and Anna divorced, John moved into his childhood home with his sister, Cheryl in 1998, and she cared for him until his passing.

John's family appreciates the wonderful staff at Rocky Mountain Hospice, especially Tracy Rosenhans and Robert Chandler, who did so much for him in his final difficult days. They also appreciate North Canyon Care Center. Special thanks to his neighbor, Merlin Barlow, who was such a good friend to John.

SERVICES held at the Bountiful Tabernacle, 51 South Main on Saturday, August 23, 2014, followed by interment in Bountiful's Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
