She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Carl Alec and Lilly Johnson Sward. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended beauty school in Hutchinson. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, she was a beautician, co-owner and operator of Bob's Dixie Dip, Hutchinson, and then worked at Coberly Drug, Hutchinson.
She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 20, 1941, she married Robert Q. Burk in Hutchinson. He died March 28, 1979.
Survivors include: a son, Charles "Chuck," Hutchinson; a grandson, Eric Burk, Hutchinson; two nephews, Arvid Sward, Pearland, Texas, and Jon Sward, Emporia; and a niece, Judy Essick, Tucumcari, N.M.
Graveside service were in Fairlawn Burial Park,
Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey presiding. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas or Wesley Towers,
both in care of the mortuary.
