NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME OBITUARY – 2023
Alvin George "Sonny" Hawkins Jr., 95, passed away on February 21, 2023. He was an Army veteran who proudly served his county. Sonny retired from the Naval Ordinance Station Louisville after 30 years. Spending time with his family meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Hawkins; parents, Alvin & Elsie Hawkins Sr.; sisters, Dorothy Mae Kinkel, Mary Lee Weaver and Betty Jean Weaver; and his brothers, Robert Hawkins and Raymond Hawkins. Sonny is survived by his sons, Ron (Joan) Hawkins and Steve (Ann) Hawkins; grandchildren, Shelly (Steve) Warren, Lorie (Chuck) Hare, Susie (Cliff) Richardson, Steve (Jenny) Hawkins and Ronnie (Emily) Hawkins; 11 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sonny will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery- Central with a private service for the family at a later date. The family asks that donations be made to Hosparus Health, 6200 Dutchmans Ln., Louisville, KY 40205, in Sonny's memory.
