JAMES MORRIS MERRYLEES
In loving memory of James Morris Merrylees, June 20, 1924 - February 18 , 2006. Jim Merrylees, a resident of Mill Site Apartments, and formerly of Barrie Island, died at his residence on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the age of 81 years. He was born on Barrie Island, son of the late Joe and Annie (Greenman) Merrylees, and had lived and farmed the family farm all his life until moving to Gore Bay in 2004. Jim had been the Road Superintendant on Barrie Island for 19 years, and was a member of the Legion. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, performing at many variety nights and at the school. He was known to have the best fences on Barrie Island and for his saying "Good fences make good neighbours". Jim loved his farm, and the animals he raised. His farm and his family were his life. He had such a love for his family, and especially his grandchildren, that few if any person could match. In turn his family loved him more than words could ever say. He will be truly missed, but memories will be cherished by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his dearly loved and loving wife, Kal (Wright) Merrylees. Loved and loving father of Kay and Danny Nadeau, Jean and Mike Gibbs, Joe and Sue, Bob and Connie, Barb and Steve Middaugh all of Gore Bay and Jamie and Debbie of Brampton. Proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. He was "Poppa Jim" to many children adopted by heart.Dear brother of Elizabeth Hammond (husband Perc predeceased) of Gore Bay, Audrey and husband Jiggs Elliot of Little Current. Predeceased by sister Kathleen and husband John Bryant and brothers Wilmer and James.Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was conducted in Lyons Memorial United Church on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 11.00 a.m. with Pastor Maxine McVey officiating. Spring interment in Gordon Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of choice. Culgin Funeral Home.
