Ervin George "Erv" Burkhardt
1931 - 2023

Ervin George Burkhardt, born October 9, 1931, passed away peacefully at home due to respiratory failure on February 22, 2023, at the age of 91. A lifelong Murray resident, he was born, lived, and died on the same street.

After graduating from Murray High School, he got his first job at Streator Chevrolet in Salt Lake where his love for fixing cars began. In the early '60s, he opened his own business Erv's Automotive. He ran a successful "shop" for more than 40 years and was well-known as an honest and highly skilled mechanic. He was always eager and willing to help anyone with their troubled car. Even as he battled dementia, in his final days, he was able to recite the firing order of a Chevy V8 engine. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Erv loved serving others, teaching them how to ride a bike or drive a "stick shift".

In 1953, he married Evelyn Elizabeth Buchanan in the Salt Lake Temple. After the passing of Evelyn, he met and married Ivy Carnell in 1996 in the Manti Utah Temple.

Ervin is survived by his wife Ivy; two of his three children: Ervin Daniel Burkhardt and his wife Stacey, Cherlynn (Burkhardt) Heindel and her husband Kris; Ivy's four children: Bill Carnell (Sonia), Jennifer Boulden, Joann Mros, Jamie Johns (Norm); 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Elizabeth Buchanan Burkhardt; daughter, Sherry Louise Burkhardt (Wyatt) Kunz; his parents and six siblings.
