SCALES MOUND, Ill. -- Margaret M. Stephan, 89, of the Elizabeth Nursing Home, formerly of Scales Mound, died at 4:54 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Scales Mound, with the Rev. Chris Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound, where there will be a parish rosary recited at 2 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1919, in Freeport, daughter of Garfield and Eva (Magee) Bonjour. She married John V. Stephan on April 28, 1943, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Apple River; he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1986.

She was a graduate of Warren High School, class of 1937.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish.

She loved gardening and a good game of cards, especially euchre, and being with her grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons, Ray (Rose Ann) Stephan, of Peosta, Iowa, Donald (Irene) Stephan, of Dubuque, and Lawrence (Monica) Stephan, of Warren; seven grandchildren, Nancy (Gordon) Stevenson, Sandy (Rodney) Potter, Katie and Benjamin Stephan, Eric, Adam (Marcie) and Kyle Stephan; five great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Kimberly, Grace and Megdalyn Potter and Anthony Stevenson; two sisters-in-law, Florence Huilman and Loretta Upmann; and a brother-in-law, Joe (Lorraine) Stephan.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence Bonjour; and her twin sister, Mary Upmann.
