Jack Lee McCue, Sr., 71, of Paxico, KS, formerly of Blackwater, MO, passed away Thursday morning January 12, at Stormont-Vail Health Care Center in Topeka, KS. Rosary and prayer service to be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Newbury, KS, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:30. Luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus hall. Jack McCue, Sr., was born February 4, 1940, in Atchison, KS, the son of Kenneth Edwin McCue, Sr. and Virginia Lee Brown-McCue. He played for a semi-pro baseball team in Texas in his early years before attending Coffeyville Community College. He worked at the Sunflower munitions plant in Lawrence, KS during the 1960's where he met and married Donna Jo Hunzicker. They eventually moved from Lawrence to Boonville, MO where he worked at several jobs including Kemper Military School and College as Assistant Athletic Director. He also co-owned the local Gaslight Lounge with his brother, Charles. Later he moved to Blackwater, MO where he operated McCue's Store the local grocery and café. He was very active in the Blackwater community and enjoyed refereeing the local basketball games and driving the school bus. Later, Jack managed the Stuckey's Dairy Queen Store in Nelson, MO before retiring from the Paxico, KS DQ. Retirement didn't suit Jack and he worked for USD 329 Mill Creek Valley as a custodian until last year. Jack was well known for his witty sense of humor and excellent cooking and grilling skills. He worked and played hard, enjoyed visiting with friends, and treasured his family. Jack is survived by his only son, Jackie Lee McCue, Jr. and wife Lisa, of Paxico, KS; two daughters, Lori Humphrey and husband Jamie of Wooldridge, MO and Lynelle David and husband Jack of Moberly, MO. Also surviving is a brother, Charles McCue of Nelson, MO, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation or the Jack McCue Memorial Fund in care of Stockgrower's State Bank in Paxico, KS. Jack Lee McCue Sr.
