Geraldine Esther Byers passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI. She was born August 24, 1934, in Platteville, WI the daughter of the late John and Mabel (Christianson) Johnson.
Geraldine met her husband, Loren in the Spring Valley/LeRoy area, where she would pick him up in her convertible for dates and later married in 1957. She graduated from LeRoy Highschool as Valedictorian in 1952 and then following, received a BA degree at the University of Minnesota in 1956. She then went on to teach High School Business and later a became a successful realtor in the Kalamazoo area. She really found her passion as a Real estate investor with an abundance of rental properties. Maybe even her favorite passion yet, was trading the stock market fulltime for more than 50 years.
Geraldine was active as a member of her community church. She thoroughly enjoyed participating in bowling and golf leagues as well as Pinochle and Bridge. Geraldine never really retired. She still enjoyed trading the stock market, and handling the rental properties. She did however, in the last several years make it to Florida to be with her daughter's family which she truly enjoyed. Geraldine loved to travel with the family on long trips all over the country. She truly enjoyed watching her son participate in sports games; her daughter perform in theater, singing, pageants etc.; and her grandchildren in all of their sports and other activities. She will be remembered by her family as the "wisest/sharpest women anybody ever met".
On October 18, 1957, Geraldine married Loren Byers who preceded her in death on September 11, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian Byers on June 27, 2018.
Geraldine is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Rick) Burkhardt; grandchildren, Bradley Burkhardt, Brittany (Jason) Kaylyn Slay and Mackenzie, Gabrielle, Stormm, and Harrison Byers; and many relatives living in Minnesota and Iowa.
Services will be held 2 pm Monday, February 27, 2023, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009, with Pastor Jim Dyke, officiating. Graveside services will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
