Obituary from The Shreveport (LA) Times online 22 Feb 2023:
Dr. Leon James Bain, Jr. passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 21, 2023, following a lengthy battle with dementia. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 31, 1937, the son of Dr. Leon James Bain, Sr. and Margaret Dobbs Bain.

After graduating from C.E. Byrd High School, he attended Vanderbilt University where he became a proud member of the Sigma Chi social fraternity and built and nurtured lifelong friendships. He graduated from Centenary College and like his father, he pursued a career in dentistry. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Emory Dental School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Leon joined the United States Navy Dental Corp in 1961 and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in Charleston, South Carolina. After retiring in 1967, he returned home to Shreveport where he began his own dental practice. As he built his career, he was on staff at Schumpert Medical Center, LSU Medical Center Department of Oral Surgery and Live Oak Retirement Center. He was member of the American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, Northwest LA Dental Society, American Society of Geriatric Dentistry, Ark-La-Tex Dental Congress, Ark-La-Tex Academy of Dentistry, Mithra Grotto Dental Health Clinic and Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission. Leon was affectionately known by his patients as "No Pain Bain" and had a passion to provide his patients with precision painless dentistry with a smile. He adored his patients and always kept them at ease with his gentle nature, humility, and contagious sense of humor. He often joked that he "loved getting on his patient's nerves."

His life mission was to make everyone else feel better. He loved to be with friends and family, especially if it involved dogs and/or boating. Lake Ouachita was a special place to him and was the site of many happy memories. He loved God and Country, the Prayer High Flight , his First United Methodist Church family and Rotary International.

Leon is survived by his son, Patrick Todd Bain; brother, Hoyt Dobbs Bain and wife Charicie; niece, Beth Bain Lamkin and her family; nephew, James Hall Bain and his family; and nephew Charles Mark Bain and his family.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary. Dr. Carl Rhoads will officiate the service. Visitation will follow in Bain Hall rm 101.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in his name, to the Wounded Warrior Project, Robinson's Rescue, or to the First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. We would like to express special thanks to the caregivers who made his life comfortable; Joyce Cascio, Linda Williams, Rolanda Hall, Sam Stroupe and Rosada Farris.
