James Harlan "Jim" Dietrich, 68, of Clarksville, IN passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 20, 2023. He was born on June 19, 1954 in Louisville, KY to the late Austin and Caroline (Newkirk) Dietrich.
Jim was a 1973 graduate of NAHS and spent a couple semesters at Indiana University Southeast before starting his career at the New Albany Tribune in 1975. There Jim started in circulation, moved up to advertising manager and eventually became publisher. Jim's passion for work and the love of his community lead him to many philanthropic endeavors including helping spearhead DNA - Develop New Albany as well as a local newspaper, The Tri-County Extra. His love for print did not stop there, PDG Printing opened and operated as a family business for over 20 years in downtown New Albany. After that Jim worked for Schwan's Foods and was a regional salesman for Stoker Foods until his declining health forced him to retire.
Although his career was cut short due to illness, Jim was an active family man and huge presence in all his grandkids lives.
Whether it be coaching, spectating or just their sounding board, he always made time for his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Rose (Hardy) Dietrich; children, Cara Libs (Jeff), Kim Dierking (Kevin), Jessica Anderson (TJ), Jimmy Dietrich (Sara); siblings, John Dietrich (Cyndi), Patricia Holaday, Steve Dietrich (Billye); in-laws, Linda Taylor, Mike Hardy (Janet), George Hardy (Becky), Mary Reel (KC); grandchildren, Erin (Rob), Griffin (MaryAnn), Kyle (Isaiah), Reece (Jacqueline), Zoe, Summer, Cooper, Sienna, Cruz, Cash and Chance; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany and on Tuesday after 9 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens in New Albany.
