Jennie attended school in Shannon (Mississippi) and prepared herself for teaching, which she followed for a number of years, first in Mississippi and later in Fayetteville Arkansas..when her father died in 1884. She and her mother then went to Little Rock, Arkansas to live with her sister, Annis. When her mother died in 1887, she married George Washington Terry of Prescott, Arkansas.

Jennie only consented to marry (Mr.) Terry, who was a Methodist, when he agreed to let her raise his children by a former marriage to Fannie Pitfield in the Presbyterian Church.

Jennie Feemster was the seventh child of Minos Barzallai Feemster (1804-1884) and Martha Matilda King (1803-1887).

note: George W. Terry's first child, May Terry, married Dr. John Minos Feemster Gill. Dr. Gill was the great nephew of Martha Matilda King (wife of the above Minos Feemster). Dr. Gill was not directly related to his namesake.

Minos Barzallai Feemster was a well known Presbyterian minister. He was ordained in 1828 and tutored many other ministers. He served the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Shannon, Mississippi from 1847 through 1858. Minos served the Central Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas from 1860 through 1862. They were living in Pototoc, Mississippi at the time of Minos' death in 1884.
