Herbert Shumate, age 74, went to be with his Lord after a lingering illness. He was member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He worked with his brother for years building before starting his own business Herbert's painting and wallpapering. He loved woodworking and traveling. Former member of GWRRA, CMA, Smokey Mountain Antique Engines and Tractor's and East Tennessee Mopar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hermon and Doris Shumate; brothers, Frank and Larry.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mona, brothers, Fred (Carolyn), Edward (Brenda); sisters, Joan Gothard and Mary West; mother-in-law, Mary Nichols, several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church 4904 Asheville Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37914 or the Gideon's. Friends may call at their convenience from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Wednesday, February 22, and from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Rose Funeral & Cremation-Broadway. Funeral service will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Sean White officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 am Friday, February 24, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 am graveside service.
