James Joseph Wall

James Joseph John Wall was born September 13, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Margaret Elizabeth Schmitt and John Fidelis Wall. He is the brother of the late John Michael Wall and Margarita Wall Staugler.

While in grade school, he started taking music lessons. In 5th grade he learned to play the saxophone and then took up clarinet in high school.

After attending St. Gregory and St. Mary's Colleges, he helped with the family business, The JM Wall Co. in Cleveland, Ohio where they did industrial sewing. He went back to school to get his Master's in Education and Library Sciences.

After marrying his first wife, Joan O'Brien in 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio, they moved to a suburb of Miami, Florida. In Florida, he taught secondary school teaching English, Latin, and German. Two of his favorite Latin phrases were "Ad maiorem Dei gloriam" meaning "For the greater glory of God" and "Ad Jesum per Mariam" meaning "To Jesus through Mary".

After visiting a friend in Rockville, Maryland, he decided to apply for a teaching job. He worked as a teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools at Newport Junior High and Walt Whitman High School. He worked with MCPS for 21 years before retiring.

His wife, Joan passed away in 1989. They were married for 32 years. He met his second wife, Marilyn in 2007. He feels like his two marriages are his greatest accomplishments.

Beloved husband of Marilyn Wall and the late Joan O'Brien Wall; father of Mary Claire and Therese Marie; step-father of Laura (George), Mary (Phillip), and Ann (Dan). Also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and good friends in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Missouri, and Maryland.

A Visitation will be held at Shrine of St. Jude, 12701 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD, Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 10 to 11 a.m.; where the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
