Bernita (Berni) Elaine Beckstead Carly, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 8th, 2023. She was born in Payson, Utah on January 9th, 1949, to Della May Barney Beckstead and Elmer LeRoy Beckstead.

On August 24, 1967, she married the love of her life, Gene Carly, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they lived in Idaho, California, and returned to Mapleton, Utah where they raised their 3 sons. Later, Berni and Gene retired to Spring Lake, Utah.

Berni graduated from Weber State as a Registered Nurse and spent many years working at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (UVRMC). She was also a volunteer EMT with Mapleton Ambulance for over 15 years. She served for more than 7 years caring for people with disabilities. She used her talents as a nurse to teach CPR/ Emergency First Aid and served as a volunteer with the Mapleton CERT program. She had a passion for women's softball and excelled as a pitcher. She also volunteered as a little league coach.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many callings including stake camp director and stake family history specialist. She was passionate about genealogy and dedicated her life to researching her family lineage, as well as helping many others to do the same. One of her many cherished callings was serving a full-time mission alongside her husband, utilizing her nursing skills for the missionaries in the Manila Philippines MTC.

Berni is survived by her husband Gene and their three sons, Robert (Shelly), James, and Jonathan (Amy), 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister (Connie), a brother (Dan), and a granddaughter (Morgan).

The viewing and funeral will both take place at Walker Funeral Home (187 S Main St, Spanish Fork, UT 84660). The viewing will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 16th. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am, Friday, February 17th. The interment will take place at the Springville, Utah, Evergreen Cemetery.
