Zeruia's first husband Samuel H. Mount died 10/23/1863. She then married John S. Van Patten who had lost his wife and two small sons shortly before. She raised 5 children, one (Mary Elizabeth Mount b. 1863) by her first husband, one that came with second husband, John S Van Patten, (Esther Adella VP) and 4 more from the second marriage with John S Van Patten. Her name puzzled us for many years until it was found apparently mentioned in 2 Samuel 17:25. She had 3 sons Abishai, Joab and Asahel. Asahel was a very fast runner and all 3 were in King David's army. In the story she is listed as David's sister.
