SAMUEL P. ACHTZEHN was born April 16, 1937 in West Newton, Pennsylvania, died April 4, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sam graduated from the University of Maryland in 1960, where he was a member of the collegiate football team.

His career included positions at H.J. Heinz, Caloric and Mars, Inc. before he retired from Uncle Ben's in 1990. He was a consultant for Cadillac Products at the time of his death.

Sam's family and friends can take comfort in knowing he lived his life enthusiastically & without regret. He has said he had done it all.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters Lynne Little and husband John and Amy Leighton and husband Chip; grandchildren, Erin and Kelly Little and Will, Drew and Claire Leighton; brothers John and his wife Liz, and Alvin and wife Gerri; nephews and nieces Rob, wife Lisa, and baby Adia; Wendy, Jill and Craig.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday with a memorial service at 2 PM Thursday, April 8, 1999 at John Wesley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request the memorial contributions be made to The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas, 77030.
