"Pork" was a 1956 graduate of Bellefonte High School. There, he was a proud member of the Red Raiders football team, when they finished 9-1 and were named Central Counties Conference Outstanding Team. He was employed by West Penn Power Company as a lineman, and served as the Union Representative, Greensburg Division. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Ligonier, the American Legion Band, and the Men's League at Ridgeview Golf Course. Walter enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching Penn State and Pittsburgh sports, and having his "Five O'Clock Somewhere" glass of wine.
He married Shirley Reed Fetzer, on November 12, 1960. He is also survived by two daughters, Wendy S. (Mike Grimes) Fetzer, of Centerville, OH, and Kelly L. (Robert) McCoy of Ligonier, and a son, Kevin L. (Jill) Fetzer, of Spring Hill, TN.; five grandchildren: D. Michael (Amanda) Grimes, Grant W. (Enya) Fetzer, Hannah G. Grimes, Melanie L. Henry and Reed A. Fetzer; and five great-grandchildren: Declan M. & Darcy R. Grimes, Kora B. & Colm J. Fetzer, and Beau W. Henry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James A. Fetzer and Donald C. Fetzer, and three sisters, Elizabeth F. Rupert, Ella K. Fetzer, and Margaret S. McMullin.
Interment, at Ligonier Valley Cemetery, will be at the convenience of the family with the arrangements under the direction of McCabe Funeral Home, Ligonier. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
