Betty (Betsy) Jean Hatcher Gonzalez, 85, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on February 4, 2023. As the youngest of eight children, she was the daughter of the late Bettie Griffith Hatcher and Alvis Grover Hatcher. Betsy is also preceded in death by her husband, Anthony (Tony) Gonzalez, Sr., who died in May 2001. Having married on Thanksgiving, 1971, she and Tony were married for almost 30 years.

Betsy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1955. She began her career in radio
broadcasting with WWNR in 1956. In 1980, when WTNJ first went on the air, Betsy became
active in WTNJ's operations, working various positions until she retired in 1997. Her favorite
aspect of her job was the community involvement and working with friends and co-workers.
With retirement, she found enjoyment in being a homemaker, cooking, and traveling with
friends and family. She was an avid sports fan of WWHS and WVU.

Betsy was a long-time member of the Memorial Baptist Church. She was active in all aspects
of the Church and her faith, involved with church programs, activities, and committees.
Betsy felt that one of God's purposes in her life was to help care for members of her family
when they were sick, which she did."Caring for others" was Betsy. She was a gracious and
giving person of her gifts from God.
Betty (Betsy) Jean Hatcher Gonzalez, 85, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on February 4, 2023.
