Mary Jane Bassett, 86, of Farmington, NY and formerly of Garrett, passed away peacefully January 28, 2023 in Canandaigua, NY. Mary Jane was born July 24, 1936 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Adams) Woods. In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Jack Bassett; her infant brother, Harry Woods: her family members through marriage: Martha Ellen and Albert Bassett, Audrey and Earl Winters, Elwood Klink, Robert and Ruth Bassett, Nancy and William Payne, and Kenneth Bittner; Brenda Adams and special cousin Honey Ebel. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Michael) Chapin of Canandaigua, NY, Donald (Una) Bassett of Clear Spring, MD, and Beth (Meg) of Saratoga Springs, NY; her brother, Robert (Barbara) Woods of Hockley, TX; sister-in-law, Ilean Bittner of Dover, NH; her four beloved grandchildren, Calli (Adam) Thomas, Jessica Chapin, Daniel (Ian) Chapin and Jacob Bassett; her cherished great-grandchildren, Addison, Camden, Jackson and Emerson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Jane graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School in 1954 and worked as an accounting supervisor at Rockwood Insurance Company for many years. A woman of great faith, she was an active member of the Garrett United Methodist Church until 1992 when she moved to New York and worshipped at the Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes in Farmington. Mary Jane loved picnics and gatherings and treasured time spent talking and laughing with family and friends. She was an avid sports enthusiast and loved watching the Steelers and Nittany Lions football and her favorite basketball teams. Mary Jane's grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to her life. Her family admires her strength and will greatly miss her love, dedication, and support. Family will receive friends from 12 noon until service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin with Rev. David Klink officiating. Interment Highland Cemetery, Garrett.
