Bud Carter was born and died in Porterville Utah. He was a happy, fun, hardworking farmer and Dam man. He was born on his brother Vernal's first birthday to Orial and Juanita Carter. Sharing a birthday began a lifelong close connection between Vernal and Bud and they enjoyed sharing their birthday celebrations throughout the years along with their sisters Ardell and Bonnie. They loved to live and laugh together.
Erma was the love of Buds life and once she turned 18 they eloped to Elko, Nevada. Soon Kathy and Jack were added to the family where they all worked hard on the farm caring for animals, fences and the fields. They spent many hours picking up rocks together. They were later sealed in the temple for eternity. They loved to serve and enjoyed their callings in their church ward.
Bud loved farming and especially loved his black angus cows. He named each cow and could remember them individually based on their unique personality. He even had a few mean ones that resulted in a few broken bones.
Learning from Bud was a fun experience. He taught his kids, grandkids, great grandkids and all those near him how to work and how to have fun. His family especially loved to ride to the dam with him to make sure all was safe and sound. After 9/11 he had to check the dam twice a day, seven days a week. This wasn't too big a commitment since he didn't plan on leaving Porterville anyway. We always joked that he thought he had to have travel papers to leave the county. He worked for the Dam for 53 years and just before he passed there was a 2.9 earthquake near the Dam which seemed to be wishing him a fond farewell.
Bud loved the outdoors and had a beautiful garden every year. As he got older, he loved to sit outside and just look around enjoying nature. He was grateful he could be at home in Porterville where he was able to pass peacefully. He spent his final hours looking outside and enjoying the view of the beautiful hills. He also loved his family. His last words were out of love and concern for his family members. He said "You can't buy a good family for any amount of money" and he believed he had the best of families. He loved them all very much.
