"We landed in Milwaukee, 2 Oct 1845, and settled at Menominee Falls, now in Waukesha County, where I bought a quarter section of land near the now village of that name. I sold my land in 1853, I moved my family to Appleton and located on the northwest quarter of the northwest quarter of section 34, near Appleton Junction. . . 1868 my family had a hard siege of typhoid fever which laid me up for several years.. . .Elihu Spencer
