Visiting will be in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Monday, January 23 from 4 to 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Aloysius Church, Caldwell on Tuesday at 1 pm, followed by her interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she attended St. Michael's High School in Union City, where she met her future husband of sixty-four years, Alfred P. Josephsen, Sr. while both were rehearsing for the school play. They were married at St. Aloysius Church in June of 1949, first settling in the Mary Ann Apartments in Caldwell prior to constructing their lifetime home in West Caldwell in 1959.
After high school, Joan was a part of The Annin Flag Company in Verona before dedicating herself to full-time homemaking and raising their three children together.
A wonderfully dedicated wife and mother, she was a Brownie and Cub Scout leader for her children, and she gave exceptionally of her time and talents to the parent associations of both Mt. St. Dominic Academy and The Montclair Academy. Joan was also a very active member of the Pompton Lakes Rotary Club Ladies Auxiliary and The Women's Club of Caldwell. Her other interests included the art of hand-drawn calligraphy, tap dancing, and her love of music, both as a pianist and vocalist. She was a longtime member of both the Rosary Society of St. Aloysius, as well as their Adult Choir.
Joan now rests in peace with her beloved late husband, Alfred P. Josephsen, Sr., as well as with her two brothers, Joseph & Ronald McNally.
Donations made to St. Aloysius Church in her honor and memory would be appreciated.
