Fay was born in Yancey County on March 22, 1924 to the late James Wesley Dale and Missouri Buchanan Dale.
She left Yancey County as a young woman and moved to McDowell County where she lived out her life. She worked at a number of jobs but was employed at American Thread for most of her work life. A hard worker, she was not afraid to do any kind of job that needed doing and could probably outwork many a man if she had to. Fay liked to sew and kept many of her family in clothes during her life. She was an avid reader also and took up bowling, a sport she loved. She just enjoyed life and her family and she was a mother to many of her extended family members. Her cooking was widely regarded and she enjoyed feeding her family and friends. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she loved getting together with them. Fay attended Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyda J. Wilson, and two great-grandchildren, Andrew McPeters and Kendall Durham.
Surviving are four children, Cora W. Thomas and husband Gary, Gary Wilson and wife Gloria, Becky W. Roland, and Michael Wilson and wife Beckie, all of Marion; two brothers, Russell Dale of Hildebran and Phillip Dale of Pounding Mills, VA; two sisters, Madge Dale Davis of Spruce Pine and Paulette Dale Barrier of Drexel; twelve grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Gary Greene officiating.
