William Harmon Beard, 72, died Dec. 3 at home under hospice care.

He was born in Screven County. He was a retired auto mechanic and a member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church in Sylvania. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Janis B. Reddick of Sylvania; a son Larry Harmon Beard of Sylvania; three sisters, Leola B. DeRolf, Louise B. Zittrauer and Jean B. Easler, all of Sylvania; three grandchildren, Larry Bradley Beard of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Ryan and Rebecca Reddick, both of Sylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

Brother of Leslie Beard... he and Leslie married sisters.
Married to Jeannette Stafford Harley after death of Marion Rogers Beard.
