James Mitchell Moody was born in March 1858 in the Southern District, Appling, Georgia and died in 1942 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida. He was the son of Jessie Moody (b.1828) and Margaret Moody (nee not known by me, b. 1834).

In 1860 he lived with his parents and sister Sarah in the Southern District of Appling County. He was 2 years old.

On June 1880 he was still living with his parents, Jessie and Margaret, in the 6th Election Precinct, Clay, Florida {Page 23, dw # 201, Fm # 207}. His father was 52 and his mother was 46. His siblings living there also were Sarah, 20, Amanda, 16, John, 13, Francis "Fannie", 11, Ella, 7, William, 7, and Jessie, 2. 'Mitchell' was 22 at the time and not working. His mother was keeping house and his father was a Farmer.

On March 4, 1882 Mitchell married Mary Elizabeth Conway in Clay County, Florida.

In 1900 they were living in Green Cove Springs, Clay, Florida with their children. In 1910 they were living in Starke, Bradford, Florida and in 1920 they were living in Glen Saint Mary, Baker, Florida.

In 1930 they were living in Penney Farms, Clay, Florida. They had not lived there long when Mitchell became a widower after his wife Mary died in 1933. She died in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida at a hospital. {Florida Death Index, 1877-1998 listed Jackson, Florida}.

In 1935 Mitchell was still living at the same home he had been in 1930, in Penney Farms on a farm.

On April 8, 1940 Mitchell was living in Precinct 1 in Penney Farms at the same home that he had owned and lived in during 1930 and he was 82 years old. He had long since retired and was no longer working {sheet 2B, dw # 35, Fm # 35}.

In 1942 Mitchell died in Jacksonville and was buried at Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery in Green Cove Springs.

Mitchell and Mary's children include:

1. John Moody
2. Alfred Moody
3. Ella Moody
