Dr. John Ramsey Hayden, son of Louisa Thompson and Dr. Anaximander Belemus Hayden (buried Smith-Hayden Cemetery), was born June 20, 1849. He came with his family to Shelby County from Virginia in 1879. He married Henrietta Corilla Tatum, daughter of Suzanne Elizabeth McAddams and Able Gravette Tatum, on December 23, 1879, in Center. The couple's 7 children include Ashton Belemus, Vivian Louisa, Germain Tatum, Gertrude Susan, Alberta Euralee, and John Cleveland.

Dr. Hayden died at his home at age 82, after a brief illness. Survivors included his 4 sons and 3 daughters; 2 brothers: George Anson Hayden (also buried at Ramah) and Dr. A. M. Hayden of Evansville, Indiana; and 7 grandchildren.
