After thorough investigation and contact of historical societies, along with dna match I've concluded that Mary "Jane" Howard was daughter of David Hampton and Nancy (Tomlinson) Howard.

David Howard's 1840 census lists 1 female under 5 ( Sarah). It lists 1 female age , 5-9 "Jane". It lists 3 females 10-14 , Elizabeth, Louisa and unknown.

Jane is first found on 1850 census married to Thomas Miller in Madison County Indiana. Both Jane and Thomas's parents came from North Carolina. They are next seen on 1860 census in Iroquois County, Illinois. They had 3 children, David, Mary and Minerva. David stayed in this area for the rest of his life. Coincidentally, his name is David, possibly named after his grandfather. Likely, but uncertain. David's marriage record lists mother as Mary Jane Howard.

Mary's death certificate lists mother unknown but I have DNA linked to her line. Minerva's death certificate lists mothers last name as "Perry". Jane's youngest sister Sarah married a "Perry" and they had several children. It is possible that Minerva was close to this family.

Allison wasn't listed on that 1860 census which is odd but there is another male named Joseph. Allison's death certificate lists mother as Jane Howard. My family records from my great uncle's research list Elizabeth Foland but Allison's death cert states otherwise. Perhaps that death certificate was with one of his SEVERAL children. But not left with his oldest daughter, Grace who was my great grandmother.

Jane died before 1870 as younger children were living with other people. It is possible Jane might be laid to rest where David is, in Flesher Cemetery. David's wife's family is there along with Thomas's brother John Calvin Miller.

One specific DNA match links me to a York family which was descended from Jane's sister Louisa. After searching this tree there was no other family names familiar to mine. I have other DNA linked to other descendants but these family trees also have other family names from the area, one even listing both maternal and paternal names. Another specific DNA match shows as a maternal match but my mother did testing. My father passed away in 2012. Interesting enough this match has family in my paternal line and has Miller family listed as well! After searching back on this Miller family, they came from Pennsylvania. My Thomas Miller family came from North Carolina. Still, interesting enough, this Thomas Benton Miller married Emma Melvina Perry, daughter of Sarah Howard Perry.

Two censuses lists Jane born about 1833, she most likely died in Iroquois County Illinois or Madison County Indiana. That is the areas where other family landed. Would be thrilled to find her marriage record to Thomas Miller.
