Born March 2, 1911 in Edina, she was the daugher of Alexander and Lizzie (Smith) Long. On February 20, 1935 at Kirksville, Missouri she was united in marriage to Leonard Lee Vansickle who preceded her in death on April 28, 1975.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, twin sons at birth, a grabddaughter, Brenda Adcock, and eight brothers and sisters, Myrtle Long, Bertha Campbell, Carrie Golden, Ruth Conkle, Ray Long, Alta Blanche Long Baker, Frank Long, Ada Long and a son-in-law, Clifton Woodward.
Surviving are one son, Harold Vansickle and his wife Lorene of Hurdland; two daughters, Janice Woodward of Kearney and Jane Adcock of Gladstone, Missouri; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vansickle was raised in the Hurdland community and received her education at the VanHorn and Rock Creek Schools and graduated from the Hurdland High School. Mabel and her husband were engaged in farming south of Hurdland. She was a member of te UMW Group, the VanHorn Club and the Hurdland United Methodist Church. Mabel enjoyed gardening and especially her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday July 29, 2006 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. The Rev. Beryl Cragg will officiate the services. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Hurdland, Missouri.
