Lifelong Pottawatomie county resident, Lavon Glenn Hulin, passed away June 3rd at the age of 95.
Lavon was born March 18, 1926 and spent his youth on the family farms in the Pink and Macomb areas. During this time he learned to love raising a garden, hunting and sports.

Lavon graduated from Macomb High School in 1944 and promptly joined the military during World War II. Having never traveled out of Pott County before, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Typhon, a landing craft repair ship. While in the Navy, Lavon made lifelong friends that he considered as brothers.

At the conclusion of the war Lavon returned to Pott County and met Ruth McKellar who would become his wife and partner of 74 years. They were married in 1947 and settled in Tecumseh to raise their family. Early in their marriage Lavon enrolled and graduated from Neff's Business College. While at Neff's and afterwards he played on several talented basketball teams, even playing against the Harlem Globetrotters. Upon graduation he joined Southwestern Bell / AT&T from which he would retire after over 35 years of service.

Lavon loved the outdoors; he was a champion coon hunter, raised treeing walker coon dogs and was an avid gardener. He always had a tale to tell from a hunt. He enjoyed riding his tractor, tending his large garden and sharing its bounty with friends and family. Visiting with his buddies and sharing tall tales were special moments of his retirement. Sports were a lifelong passion, especially basketball, baseball and softball. He played on several successful teams in his younger days then transitioned to coach and spectator. He was proud of the accomplishments of the T-Town Rovers softball team, enjoying his time as co-coach. Lavon was a fixture at his children's, grandchildren's and even great grandchildren's games. He never tired of attending a good ballgame.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth; sons Steve (Diane) Hulin of Aledo Texas, Tony (Beth) Hulin of Blacklick Ohio; daughters Jennifer (David) Bourland of Seminole and Laurie Hulin of Earlsboro. Grandchildren include Jeffrey (Crystal) Bourland, Holly (Jay) Sparks, Marisa Hulin, Robyn (Jake) Carey, Hannah (Eric) Scott and Sophie (Matt) Purke. He also leaves a legacy of 10 great grandchildren; Tanner, Hayley, Gabby, Tatum, Miranda, Liam, Finley, Amelia, Ivy and Hadley. Plus extended family and a multitude of cherished friends.

A celebration of Lavon's very full life will he held June 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Shawnee. Visitation will be held June 8, 2021 at Resthaven from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances are appreciated to honor Lavon's love of his education and sports experiences at Macomb High School and his support of our nation's military veterans. Should you feel inclined memorial donations may be made to the Macomb Alumni Association, PO Box 104, Tecumseh, OK 74873 or The National Association of Veterans & Families at 1300 Cooks Lane, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 or https://www.navf.org/donate/.
