Mrs. Baio is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 ½ years, Raymond Anthony Baio, Sr. and granddaughter, Sarah Deffendall. She was the caring mother of Connie Hansen (Steve), Donna Jacob, Ken Deffendall (Barbara), Susan Hummel (Jerry), M'Liss Mitchell (Tommy), Robert Baio (Bea Bea), and Raymond Baio, Jr. Also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Matthew Deffendall (Lisa), Carla Hatfield, Eric Draper, Benjamin Deffendall (Maegon), Jared Roth, Laura Roth-Canales (Rafael), Taylor Roth (Pamela), Dana Ahlers (Justin), Alicia Jacob (Justin), Heather Roth-Lange (Richard), Jason Hummel (Alicia), Jennifer Hummel Regan (Tim), Aaem Mitchell, Kassie Baio; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Southport High School, Southport, IN, in 1947 Mrs. Baio enjoyed decorating for dances and painting play backdrops. In her free time, she loved to ice skate at the Indianapolis Coliseum.
Mrs. Baio was an accomplished artist and excellent seamstress. Additionally, she enjoyed all types of handwork including quilting, knitting, smocking and cross-stitch in which she always had an eye for detail. She was a member of the National Tole and Decorative Painting Society. Mrs. Baio loved to travel; she and her husband made several international as well as domestic trips. As an avid gardener, she and Ray worked tirelessly on their homestead and loved every minute of it. Proud members of Ozone Squares square dancing club they entertained members with pig roasts, hayrides and dancing in their big red barn.
Mrs. Baio worked outside of her home in several banks, South Central Bell, and Ochsner Hospital. She served as the designer for the couple's company, Doe-Ray Homes, Inc.
Mrs. Baio was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Covington, LA. She participated in many activities there and sang in the choir. She and Ray loved their FBC family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the celebration of life services at the Chapel of First Baptist Church, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
