Robert Misner born in 1899 in Thomas County, Kansas died in 1959 in Los Angeles and is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. David and Nancy Misner, their 3 small children and 1 brother, Ruben DeLoss Misner, and 2 other families, Jim Hayes and Charles Carlson families came to Thomas County, Kansas at the same time in 1885. They traveled by covered wagon from Hastings, Nebraska. They stopped at Harvard, Nebraska with an Uncle John and there on September 6 a son Ira was born. The Misner homestead, a tree claim which was located 6 miles south and 6 miles east of Colby, Kansas. Their first home was a 1-room sod house, later a 3 bedroom sod house was built. There was no well for water. It was necessary to go 5 to 6 miles to a neighbors for water. They picked cow chips to burn for warmth and for cooking. When they dug a well they pulled the water up in small barrel with a horse. The ground was so new and enriched that no matter what they put in, it grew. They raised pie melons, squash, pumpkin, citron, and all kinds of garden vegetables. Broom corn was also raised on the the Charles Carlson farm.

To this union was born: Wilbur Eugene born October 12, 1879, died Oronogo, Missouri (findagrave #37592104); Dora Olive Jasperson born January 1, 1882 Stockhem, Nebraska died August 30, 1973 buried in Beulah Cemetery (findagrave #27709881); James Ira born September 6, 1885 Harvard, Nebraska died June 30 1946 buried in Beulah Cemetery (findagrave #34040942); Blanche Jasperson born June 3, 1890 Thomas County, Kansas died 1986, buried in Beulah Cemetery (findagrave #27709848); Loy Wayne born January 18,1892 Thomas County, Kansas, lived in Utah (findagrave #148502); Jay born April 2 1894 Thomas County, Kansas died January 16, 1975 buried in Forest Lawn Los Angeles California (findagrave #85470284). (There is a half brother, with different mother, Robert D. Misner findagrave #21853946 and 85470286).

Nancy Evaline Misner died when she was only 39 years old and left 6 small children. Mrs. Dora Jasperson was 14 at the time and was left to raise 4 of her younger brothers and 1 sister. She was thankful that she could look after them and did the best she could as their father was gone much of the time because he was a cattle buyer. Dora often thought of her mother, so young, and marveled at her strength and determination in coming to such a desolate country with 3 small children.
