Erwin E. Bucher, age 87, died Friday, February 22, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg inpatient unit. He was born February 17, 1921, to Elmer and Amanda (Mayer) Bucher. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp 356th Fighter Group during World War II in Ipswich, England and Port Lyautey, North Africa. He was employed as a machinist at Johns Manville in Waterville from 1951 until his retirement in 1983. He married Betty Sherburne on December 19, 1947. He was a member of the Whitehouse Legion Post 384 for 62 years and participated in military funerals for his comrades until 2005. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, bike riding, and bowling.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clifford, Ralph, and Richard. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kathy Gerace; son, Ron (Theresa Frank) Bucher; grandchildren, Ryan (Mary Ann Raghanti) Gerace, Jennifer (Christian) Youngston, Brian Bucher and Veronica Bucher and sister, Dorothy Kolodzaike.

Visitation will be Monday, February 25, 2008, at Peinert Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Road, Waterville from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with interment at Whitehouse Cemetery. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care provided to Erwin.
