Fredrich was born at unter Bauernschaft Nr.26, Rodewald, electorate of Hannover. He was the son of Hinrich CHRISTIAN Degener and Anne Catharine Dorothee Duensing, both born in Rodewald. He married Anne Marie Volberding on 20 November 1842 at St. Aegidien Lutheran Church in Rodewald. He immigrated to the United States with is wife and their daughter Marie in 1845 arriving at New York City on 7 October 1845 aboard the ship Emma.
